NEW YEAR TOURNAMENT

Tennis was back for the New Year in Lakes Entrance with 36 Players taking to the courts over the weekend. It was a little blowy on Sat afternoon but conditions were near perfect on Sunday morning. Players came from Heyfield, Wellington District, South Morang, Sydney, Wangaratta, Croydon, Sale, Launching Place plus local entries. Both players and spectators were thrilled to be back with some excellent tennis over the two days. The BBQ with incredible food was fantastic on Saturday evening with up to 50 people enjoying the very social evening. Highlights over the two days included a new winner in Section 1 Mens Bob Pincini playing solid tennis on day two to snatch victory from Nigel Carr. In the Womens Section 1 Melanie McPhee was the standout performer just getting over the line over tournament regular Christine Morris on percentage. Another feature over the weekend was the return of former member Brodie Aston who took out the Mens Section 2 title winning all his 6 sets. Former local boy Aaron Symons also took to the court and said the weekend was great and he enjoy catching up with old friends and new. At the presentations long time Club Coach Nigel Carr was presented with a Life Membership of the Club for his work and commitment over many years especially juniors. In presenting the plaque to Nigel past Life member Shaun Baker spoke of Nigel’s amazing commitment to tennis and his great input into Lakes Entrance Tennis Club. Congratulations must go to local businesses, members and friends of the Club for their incredible support. A big thank you Lakes Entrance.
