Final Selection Policy for Junior Competition
The junior committee has agreed on a finals selection policy in an effort to assist team managers in what can sometimes be a daunting task. By publishing the policy all players and parents will be aware of how selection works well before the end of the season. We hope this will alleviate some of the angst at finals time.
The policy tries to achieve two things: to give everyone in the team the opportunity to play in the finals, and to maximise a team's chance of winning the flag.
The statistics recorded for each player throughout the season are used to rank each of our players within their own team. Rankings will be advised to team managers whose teams make the finals. These rankings are then used in finals team selection as follows ...
Five Player Teams
If a team finishes in either 1st or 2nd place at the end of the home and away season (where they'll get a second chance):
Players ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th will play in the Semi Final. If they lose the Semi Final, the top 4 players will play in the Preliminary Final. If they get into the Grand Final (either as a result of winning the Semi Final or the Preliminary Final) the top 4 players will play.
If a team finishes in either 3rd or 4th place at the end of the home and away season (where they don't get a second chance):
The top 4 players will play in the Semi Final. If they win the Semi Final, the players ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th will play in the Preliminary Final. If they win, the top 4 players will play again in the Grand Final.
If a team finishes in either 1st or 2nd place at the end of the home and away season (where they'll get a second chance):
Players ranked 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th will play in the Semi Final. If they lose the Semi Final, the top 4 players will play in the Preliminary Final. If they get into the Grand Final (either as a result of winning the Semi Final or the Preliminary Final) the top 4 players will play.
Six Player Teams
If a team finishes in either 3rd or 4th place at the end of the home and away season (where they don't get a second chance):
