2023 AGM Member Update
The 43rd AGM was held on Sunday, 17th September 2023 at 1 pm. Weather was great and the new format was well received. Thanks to the 30+ people who attended the day, with 26 members at the AGM. Tennis was played throughout the day, interrupted by the AGM which unfortunately is a constitutional requirement. Lunch and drinks were enjoyed after the AGM before tennis resumed.
There were a number of awards announced at the AGM to recognise member contributions. The key award of Club Member of the Year was to John Winmill for his general handyman skills, maintaining the ground & hedges and servicing the lawn movers. Congratulations John and well done!
Unfortunately the committee elections fell short of requirements. Craig Mason remains as President, Stephen Hill Vice President and Karen Power as Secretary. The Treasurer and 3 ordinary committee positions remain vacant. Same as last year, Stephen Hill will be appointed Treasurer, assisted by Brian Adams and Adrienne Smith with bookkeeping and banking duties. We encourage any member with an interest in general business, administration, marketing, planning, operations or finance to contact a Committee member to explore the possibilities. No obligation!
Copies of the 2023 Annual Report are available in the clubhouse and will also be on the clubs website. The highlights of the 2022/2023 year were;
- A 5-year lease agreement was negotiated with MidCoast Council,
- Facility investment projects totalled $277,000. They were funded through NSW Government grants $203,000 and club funds $74,000. Significant help was received from volunteers, MidCoast Council and local businesses.
- MidCoast Council commissioned a Tennis NSW Restart Audit for their tennis facilities to support their Outdoor Space Strategy. The Committee will use this information to develop a Strategic Plan to help sustain the club.
- Tournaments successfully returned to normal. The 2022 Priceline NSW Country Championships and the 2022 Forster Holiday Village Seniors Tournament were well organised and managed by Tennis NSW & club members with 676 players competing in 96 events over 11 days. The club turnover was $48,000, generating a surplus of $28,000.
- These tournaments were also recently held in July/August 2023. Full details will be in the 2024 Annual Report.
To finish, the clubs financial position remains relatively stable. A break-even result from day-to-day operations was achieved, an improvement over recent years. The financial performance highlights were;
- Member and visitor participation were flat,
- Sponsor contributions were rejuvenated,
- The club re-registered for GST, saving $33,000,
- Grants were secured to fund 73% of the clubs facility investments, and
- Tournament efforts contributed surpluses of $28,000.
Thanks for supporting our great club – I am confident that together we can achieve greater success in the years to come.
Craig Mason
President
