East Burwood Tennis Club

Welcome All

With a history stretching back around 100 years since its inception, East Burwood Tennis Club offers its members and visitors true social and competitive tennis experience in a relaxing and open space with easy parking.

Situated at the North West corner of the expansive 40-acre East Burwood Reserve Google Maps, the Club's northern border runs along the Burwood Highway section of Burwood East while the remaining boundaries are nestled within open park precincts, sporting grounds, and recreation facilities.

History of The Club

The Club was originally opened in 1923 by a small group of tennis enthusiasts and volunteers. The original courts consisted of 2 asphalt courts which are now the current courts 8 & 9 and the clubhouse was a wooden shed with a tin roof.

In 1966 with funding availability from membership contribution,  courts 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 were added on; and in its later years, East Burwood Tennis Club experienced a phenomenal membership growth, and two additional clay courts 1 and 2 were given a green light by the Whitehorse Council. The Clubhouse was also then upgraded during this period to accommodate the membership growth. The renovation was mainly carried out and completed mostly by volunteer club members

In late 1990's the then Whitehorse City Council helped convert the 5 courts along the Burwood Highway end into Classic European Clay synthetic carpet but leaving clay courts 1, 2, 3, and 4 as they were. The Classic European Clay switch-over however turned out to be a bad choice for the club as the surface deteriorated so quickly and it posed safety hazards to players during the wet season.

With the help of the State Government's sports grant together with using the Club's financial reserves the three courts 5, 6, and 7 were replaced with a more durable mod grass green-and-brown surface in 2005/06, followed by the remaining two courts 8 and 9 three years later.

At East Burwood, we're a multicultural and community-diverse tennis club catering to players of all ages, genders, and different socioeconomic backgrounds and tennis abilities.

Everyone is welcome to come and play and we look forward to welcoming new members.
