Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Doncaster Tennis Club are using the court booking and membership tools hosted by Tennis Australia at play.tennis.com.au/doncastertennisclub/.

PIN

What is the PIN to enter the courts? On booking a court, you will receive an email and/or SMS confirming the details of the booking and a PIN to access the facility. The PIN will be active 15 minutes before the start of the booking time. Enter the PIN followed by #. Listen for 2 beeps to confirm the PIN was correct (1 long beep means it was entered incorrectly). Lights will not turn on unless the PIN has been entered, even if the gate was unlocked.
NOTE: It can take a few minutes after making a booking for the PIN to become active.

Court hire

Do I get a refund if it rains and is too wet to play? Yes, but you need to email secretary@doncastertc.org.au with the details. Please cancel the booking (or the remaining of the booking) once washed out.

Do I get refund if I cancel? A booking is automatically refunded if cancelled more than 6 hours before the booking.

Current Members

How does a member book a court? Choose "Book a Court" on the website; sign-in to tennis.com.au (if prompted); pick a court & time that is available, using ">" and "<" buttons to see other dates and courts.

How do I book for longer than 30 minutes? Select the court & start time on the booking sheet, then on the next screen you can adjust the time the booking runs until. The until time is a drop-down list; the options may be shown at the bottom of the screen on a mobile.

Do I need to list the other players? Yes. A booking that lists no other players may be cancelled. This rule is to encourage fair use of the courts and minimise bookings that go unused.

Why can’t I book 2 courts for 4 hours next month? To give all members an opportunity to play tennis there are limits on how many booking can be made, for how long, and how far in advance.

Why do I see non-member prices when I'm a member? You will see member prices (eg free during the day) for booking courts if you sign-in as a member, or sign-in as the main contact (eg parent) of a member and select the member's name from the menu in the top-right corner. The membership must be Active.

You may see non-member prices if you signed-in with a different method. 3 methods are available (password, Facebook, and Google), but each creates a separate account -- only one of which will be linked to your membership.

What is my password for tennis.com.au? Members create an online account when applying for or renewing their membership.

You may already have an account at Tennis Australia. In which case the same password is used for booking courts at Doncaster Tennis Club.

Provide some contact details and either choose a password or choose to use Facebook or Google for sign-in.

What if I forget my password? Look for the “Forgotten your password?” link on the sign-in page. Enter your email address. The resulting email will allow you to reset your password.

Why does it say “Incorrect email address”? The club may have a different email address for you on record. Email membership@doncastertc.org.au.

How do I find my Tennis ID? Contact Tennis Australia customer support on 1800 PLAY TENNIS (1800 752 983) or at play@tennis.com.au.

Joining Members

Are part-year memberships available? No (unless there are special circumstances). A membership runs for a year from when it is purchased. Historically, memberships ran from 1 August to 31 July the next year, but now they can start on any day of the year.

How can I pay for a membership? By a bank transfer to the Doncaster Tennis Club bank account 14285-5220 at Bendigo Bank BSB 633-000. Please use your FULL NAME as the transaction description.

What happens after I join online? You can book courts as a member immediately after joining online. Within about a week you will be sent a welcome email and posted a parking permit; the timing depends on when a club volunteer reconciles the online membership application with a membership payment.

How do I change membership categories? Just choose JOIN NOW for the new category, and ignore any further reminders about the previous membership. The end-date of the new membership will be extended to be a year after the previous  one expired so you don't loose anything by renewing early (the extension may takes about a week to be visible).

Why did I receive another renewal reminder after paying? If you pay for a renewal amount don't renew online then the system does not know about the renewal until a volunteer manually fixes it with about a week. You may get another automatic reminder or an email about the membership expiring. The moral of the story: renew online.

Why can't I renew a family membership? Our family pricing (75% discount for the 3rd and subsequent family members) is not properly supported by the play.tennis system. Pay your family's renewal and the online renewal will be completed by the membership secretary.

Children

Can parents register for children? For children 13 years old and younger, all emails go to a parent (or guardian). So a parent will be invited to register at tennis.com.au. Older children may also have a parent listed as the main contact who will receive the invitation. When registering, a parent enters their details first, then adds the child's details later.

Can a parent book a court on behalf of their child? Yes. When you login your name is shown in the top-right corner. Click your name and you will see your children listed. Select a child's name, then you can book on their behalf -- even if you don't have a club membership yourself.

If you see public prices (not member prices) when trying to book, check the top-right corner to make sure you are acting on behalf of someone who has a current membership.

General Public

Can the general public book courts? Yes.

Why was my booking rejected? A booking cannot be made more than 2 days in advance, but annoyingly this restriction is not enforced until the very last step in the process. The error message is "unfortunately your booking cannot be processed as it is does not meet the booking requirements for this venue". Your credit card will not be charged.

A better way to book is from the booking sheet, as this enforces the restrictions before you pick a court and pay.

Committee, Coaches, Captains

How do I reserve courts for competition play? On the "Book a Court" page choose “View as Administrator”; start making a booking (for 1 court); then choose “Advanced options” (instead of “BOOK NOW”) to select multiple courts, longer times, and any repetitions.

How do I get permission to reserve courts for events, coaching, or competitions? The "Book a Court" page will show a “View as Administrator” option (in addition to “View as Member”) if you are allowed to book courts for special purposes. If you do not see that option ask the committee (committee@doncastertc.org.au).

How is the system organized? The main items are contacts and memberships. Anyone involved with the club should have a single contact, whether they are a member, a parent of a child member, a non-member who has hired a court, or a coach. You only need 1 contact even if you have many roles at the club.  A contact representing a child 13 or under must be linked to 1 or more parent/guardian contacts.

membership is linked to 1 or 2 people (contacts): to the member themselves; and optionally to a separate main contact for managing the membership. Junior memberships will often list a parent as the main contact. Note: The parent/guardian links in a child's (≤13) contact  are independent of a membership's link to a main contact.
