Well, Bungendore Park Tennis Club Inc (BPTC Inc) 2023 Annual General Meeting was far from boring. Attendees were treated to a visit from Tennis ACT Chief Executive Office, Kim Kachel. For those who didn't know BPTC, as a cross border club, is affiliated with Tennis ACT - this means the club enjoys the benefits and support of Kim and his team at the Nex Gen Canberra tennis and sports centre in Lyneham.

In AGM news the previous committee was re-elected with Rosie Windsor assuming the role as Club Secretary. The committee noted that the club continues to enjoy strong support from the community including through the community sausage sizzle fundraisers sponsored by our local IGA and organised by Bungendore Rotary Club. The major focus for the Club in 2023 will be to secure funding for a much needed replacement clubhouse with toilets and a space to change if you're playing tennis on the way home from work. More about that later.

Kim Kachel not only gave the committee and guests a comprehensive update on tennis happenings, across the Canberra region he also presented one of our members a very special award.

Kim presented Andy Burbidge, the Club's garden hero, with the BPTC life membership award. In presenting the award, on behalf of the committee, Kim noted the importance of volunteers to the lifeblood of clubs like BPTC and thanked all other club volunteers for all their valuable contributions over time.

In presenting Andy's award, Kim highlighted Andy's membership of more than twenty years and his help over the past four years in particular in transforming Bungendore's community club, working on many levels on a wide and variety of jobs and projects as well as general ground maintenance and of course being the master of morning teas at Tuesday Morning social tennis The thing that Kim particularly singled out was Andy's painstaking effort and attention in curating the beautiful gardens at Bungendore Park Tennis Club ,"I'm sure you'll agree that the gardens are a real standout creating an entrance vista that would be the envy of many a club and helping to create that welcoming vibe and softening the overall aesthetic."

Kim went on to say "It's not just all that time you put in Andy to make this place look and feel very special it's your personal contribution of roses and other plants, of soil, of the irrigation system, of mulch - I could go on and on Andy, you truly are BPTC's Garden Hero - would you please join me in congratulating Andy on his life membership at Bungendore Park Tennis Club award. Congratulations Andy!".

Well done Andy - we are truly a lucky community to have you.
