Welcome to Bentleigh Tennis Club

Tennis is a hit at BRTC!

BRTC is a family-friendly club which offers social play, competition and coaching on six en-tout-cas courts, four with floodlights.  We have a welcoming clubhouse with full kitchen, bathrooms, table tennis and plenty of tables and chairs for social gatherings or club meetings.

The club is in a great location off Centre road near the corner of Jasper road with great cafes and shopping along Centre road and Bentleigh railway station is nearby for easy public transport access. The club is part of the vibrant Bentleigh sporting precinct with Bentleigh Cricket and Football clubs next door and a large off-leash dog walking area, kids playgrounds, 2 ovals and the Bentleigh RSL club.

We’re building our competition and social play back up after the COVID-19 shut-down and keen for new members to join us. Click on the buttons below to find out more and come along to one of our Open Days in February each year for great discounts on memberships

Our Club

BRTC was established in 1957. The club’s formative years were housed in the second storey of the old football clubhouse, and BRTC quickly established itself as a club that focused on junior and family based tennis. Throughout the 60’s, 70’s and beyond Bentleigh Rec. fielded teams in winter and summer pennant and was a strong participant in what was at the time; the local Caulfield-Carrum and Southern Districts Tennis Associations. As an interesting aside both of these local associations are no longer running.

The club’s courts were used as the home courts for many Shell squad under age teams and this juniors focus also meant BRTC successfully hosted an annual junior tournament that attracted entrants from across the state. Past members of the club include leading Australian tennis administrator and former Australian Open tournament referee, Peter Bellenger.  Bruce McLean was one of the early coaches at the club, and a past President. Bruce is still involved at BRTC today. A handful of younger members such as Genevieve Lorbergs, Timmy Karpinski and Lawrence Sciglitano – all coached by Jamie Parrott, have been awarded student athlete scholarships for tennis at US Colleges.

With a strong history, and a new drive toward junior participation, the BRTC again strives to be a vibrant part of Bentleigh’s sporting complex.

BRTC is a not for profit community based club with a long term lease from the City of Glen Eira. The club is affiliated with Tennis Australia, Tennis Victoria, Kingston Regional Schools Association, Bayside Tennis and the Moorabbin and District Junior Tennis Association.

The club leases its facilities from City of Glen Eira.
