2024 Banyule Tennis Club Court Resurfacing Project

2024 Banyule Tennis Club Court Resurfacing Project

The Banyule Tennis Club would like to introduce club members and the Banyule City community to our court resurfacing project, which the club plans to undertake due to the unsafe and unplayable conditions of our top three courts for club and community members. These courts have faced ongoing maintenance over the last decade, requiring substantial financial and labour resources. Furthermore, drainage issues from the courts are impacting the club entrance, adding further major safety concerns.

With these three courts being visible from the road and residents, they serve as the main attraction. In the current condition not only do they limit the playing capacity for members, they also limit our ability to attract local community players.

The objectives of resurfacing the courts with synthetic grass are to enhance the playing and safety conditions for current members, attract and develop tennis players to bolster overall community participation, and improve the aesthetics of the local community and Banyule parklands.

North East Community Grant

With thanks to the support of the Victorian Government and the North East Community Fund, the $75,000 grant obtained will play a pivotal role in funding our project.

The Banyule Tennis Club members will significantly benefit from the project as the resurfacing of the top courts will provide an improved and safer experience for existing members. It will also attract new members seeking a synthetic grass surface within the local community.

The project will also impact those directly affected by the closure of the Boroondara Tennis Centre (BTC), as it will provide an accessible community club with comparable playing surfaces to BTC. This will enable them to continue their tennis activities, maintain their passion for the sport, and enhance their overall well-being.

The local community will also benefit from this project. Upon completion, the club intends to improve its accessibility to social hitters and schools groups within the community by offering tennis availability without the requirement of becoming a club member. Additionally, the project will enhance the visual appeal of both the local community and the Banyule parklands.

We will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
