Special Olympics
MTC actively assists the Melbourne Southern region of Special Olympics.
Special Olympics is a world wide organisation that gives athletes with intellectual disabilities a chance to play and compete in various sports.
Each fortnight athletes participate in training and coaching at MTC to improve their tennis skills and match play. The athletes range in age from 9 to 60+, and range in abilities from beginner to being quite capable of playing club tennis.
The group is also involved in regional games, where tennis groups from other regions join for a competition day, State and National games.
The main goal is to have athletes participating in something that they enjoy in a friendly social environment. We aim to provide activities each fortnight that encourage group participation, as well as activities tailored to improving individual tennis skills.
Information about the Special Olympics is available on their website or for details of the Melbourne Southern Tennis Group's activities, contact Colin Beeby, 0419 370 309 or [email protected]
