Our History
The Geraldton Tennis Centre stands as a testament to over 150 years of tennis heritage in Western Australia. Established in 1872, the original Geraldton Tennis Club is recognised as the oldest tennis club in the state and one of the oldest in Australia, predating even the inaugural Wimbledon tournament by five years.
Throughout its history, the club has been a cornerstone of the local community, hosting numerous tournaments and fostering a love for the game across generations. A notable event in its rich history is the Geraldton Easter Tennis Tournament, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2025. This tournament has consistently attracted players from Geraldton, the surrounding regions, and Perth, becoming a staple in the tennis community for its competitive yet friendly atmosphere.
In 2024, a significant evolution occurred when the Geraldton and Spalding Tennis Clubs united to form the Geraldton Tennis Centre. The newly formed centre, located at 256 Eighth Street, Wonthella, boasts 25 courts, including two with floodlighting, and serves as a central hub for tennis in the Mid West region.
Today, the Geraldton Tennis Centre continues to honor its storied past while looking to the future, offering a welcoming environment for players of all ages and skill levels. With ongoing efforts to upgrade facilities and expand programs, the centre remains dedicated to promoting the game of tennis and fostering community engagement.
