Welcome Back

What a fantastic summer it’s been at our club! The courts have been alive with energy, from early morning rallies through to evening hits, it’s been wonderful to see such strong court usage throughout the break. As we move into the new term, we’re delighted to welcome back club competitions and coaching, with plenty of opportunities for players of all levels to get involved. With a range of exciting events coming up, we’re looking forward to another great year on and off the court.

Vale Robert Schipperheyn
19/09/1956 - 1/12/2025

Robert Schipperheyn was a long-standing member Donvale Tennis Club, who sadly passed away on 1st December 2025 after an ongoing battle with cancer.

Robert joined the club with his family as a young man, playing both competition and social tennis at Donvale for much of his life.  Robert’s father Peter was a life member of the club and also played tennis for many years at Donvale. This passion for the game and loyalty to the club was passed on from father to son.

Robert was a shy, quiet and private person but he loved playing competitively and later in his life, being part of the Tuesday and Sunday social tennis group. Even when he was sick, he often came along to watch the play, sitting up in the Kumon room to referee and score the social matches.  He also loved to catch up with his friends for coffee and a chat after tennis.

He enjoyed a good coffee and eating out locally. Robert loved music, going to concerts, particularly Pink Floyd back in the day when they toured here. He was passionate about sport,  sport statistics and current affairs. But his main love was tennis and in particular, tennis at Donvale Tennis Club.

Robert will be missed by those who knew him, especially the Sunday social play members.

Vale Rob

Club Upgrades

A big thank you to Russell Watkins for the fantastic new seating and benches around the club. Russell made and installed the seating himself, and they’ve already made a real difference to the grounds. Thank you also to Charlie Ambrose who supported Russell with the installation. The benches look great and add to the welcoming feel of the club.

Thanks, Russell, for your time, skill, and generosity – it’s very much appreciated by the DTC community.

We’re also pleased to share that there are more improvements on the way. Over the coming weeks, members can look forward to some additional upgrades including a new BBQ and clubhouse furniture to make the space even more comfortable and inviting. Stay tuned!

DONVALE LADIES AT SHEPPARTON/MOOROOPNA

For their 4th year, our Donvale Ladies once again attended the annual Tennis Victoria Country Week this year held at Shepparton.  They came 5th in their section and while they truly love their tennis, plus the opportunity to play on grass, it was also all about the fun times spent together in good company.  The Tennis Vic Country Week is a really friendly 5-day round-robin tournament supporting country towns - grab your team and give it a try next year (at Albury)!

Sunday Intermediate-Advanced Tennis

Every Sunday, we have a group of intermediate-advanced social players who enjoy some organised match play. Draws are done prior to the day to ensure matches are as balanced as possible. If you would like to join this group, please contact

One-Point Competition

A great time was enjoyed by everyone at the recent Sunday One-Point Competition, which proved that seedings don’t always guarantee success. In a surprising twist, our three seeded players who were each limited to a single serve were eliminated early. Emerging victorious was Stefan Oelhaffen, who claimed the win against Peter Edwards. Stefan was awarded the winners prize including a trophy medallion! With 18 players in the draw, the lively format and unpredictable outcomes made for excellent entertainment — so much so that even those who didn’t progress found plenty to enjoy from the sidelines.
