Child Safety Commitment Statement
At Devonport Tennis Club, the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is our highest priority.
We have a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse or harm and are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment where all children can enjoy tennis, develop confidence, and feel supported within our community.
Guided by our vision to Play. Grow. Connect., Devonport Tennis Club works to ensure that child safety is embedded in our club culture and reflected in our policies, procedures, and everyday behaviour.
Everyone involved in our club — including committee members, coaches, volunteers, parents, and participants — shares the responsibility for keeping children safe.

Protecting Children
- Prioritising the safety and wellbeing of every child involved in our programs, competitions, and events.
- Providing positive, supportive, and inclusive experiences for all young participants.

- Ensuring children feel respected, valued, and encouraged to participate.
- Listening to children and taking seriously any concerns they raise.
Inclusive Participation
- Ensuring that all children — regardless of gender, ability, cultural background, or religion — can participate safely and confidently in tennis.
Supporting Families
- Working in partnership with parents and carers to support the wellbeing of children.
- Communicating openly and respectfully with families about child safety and wellbeing.
Clear Reporting Pathways
- Appointing a Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) as the first point of contact for any concerns relating to child safety or welfare.
Safe Governance
- Following best-practice recruitment, screening, and training processes for all people in positions of authority.
- Continuously reviewing and improving our child-safe policies and practices.
