The ACT Government has announced the first phase of gradual easing of COVID-19 restrictions on sport and recreation with informal outdoor, non-contact sport to restart with a maximum of 10 people from midnight Friday 15 May 2020.

Tennis ACT’s Community Tennis Guidelines have been updated to reflect these changes that were announced by the ACT Government and are available here. These guidelines will come into effect from 12.00am Saturday 16 May 2020.

Therefore in accordance with the ACT Government’s announcement and Tennis ACT’s updated Community Tennis Guidelines (except Clubhouse guidelines), the Weston Creek Tennis Club (WCTC) is pleased to announce that:

  • Both singles and doubles will be permitted seven days per week from 7am on Saturday 16 May 2020.
  • Bookings are open for both members and casual court hire (non-members) through Book A Court from Saturday 16 May 2020. This means manual bookings/supervision through Graeme Rossiter will cease from Friday 15 May. Any court booking enquiries should be directed to Brian at chaunb44@gmail.com
  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning Social tennis will resume from Monday 18th May 2020.
  • Groups of up to 10 are permitted which includes coach, coordinator, participants, parents, and spectators. Multiple groups of 10 are permitted at the one venue on the basis of the one person per 4 square metre rule, however there should be no cross over of these groups (social or on court activity) and there should be clear separation between the groups.
  • Small group coaching is permitted however 1:1 is available only until further notice.

Social distancing and hygiene requirements will still need to be adhered to. The Clubhouse will be made available for players to use the toilets and hot/cold tap water (to wash hands and fill up drink bottles/cups). One person at a time in each of the M/F bathrooms. The showers should not be used and players should not congregate/socialise in the club or surrounding area either.

Adult Pennant

Plans are being made to activate the winter season of the Canberra Tennis League (CTL). This season would potentially run for 8 weeks, and begin towards the end of June, subject to restrictions easing sufficiently to allow the competition to resume. For now, if you are interested in playing in the winter season, please check you have enough players to enter, and contact Dan on 0415 938 772 or at at dangreen@grapevine.com.au if you may need additional players or would like to play pennant. More information will be provided soon.

Court 5-8 Resurfacing and Maintenance

We are pleased to advise that courts 5-8 have been resurfaced successfully and are available for people to play on. With the opening of Book A Court again, these courts will be available for people to book. As with all new courts we will be monitoring them over the next 13 months. Our maintenance crew (Graeme, Geoff, Tim and Norbert) have been busy cleaning up the lane ways/aisles between courts.
