Dear Members,

The committee of the Toowoomba Tennis Association met last night to review the updated recommendations from Tennis Queensland Board of Directors [see below]. The committee has decided to re-open the James street centre from Monday 4th of May but under the strict restrictions provided by the state and federal governments and in line with the Tennis Australia “COVID-19 Community Tennis Guidelines for Continued Play” [see attached]. Any players that do not abide by the guidelines and restrictions will be asked to leave the centre.

  • Have flu-like symptoms
  • Or are in a high-risk health category
  • Social Play:
  • all social play will be limited to singles only [no doubles] – 2 people per court or a family that live in the same house.
  • Social groups cannot book the courts at this stage due to the group limitations of no more than 2 people.
  • Players are to bring and take with them their own equipment including racquets, balls, individual water bottles, etc.
  • Coaching:
  • Limited to one on one coaching only – 2 people per court.
  • Coaches to bring and take with them all of the equipment they need.
  • Coaches are to follow the coaching guidelines set out in the “COVID-19 Community Tennis Guidelines for Continued Play”
  • Court Hire:
  • The centre will only be open for hire while there is supervision provided at the courts.
  • Opening times will be Monday to Friday from 8.00am to Midday and from 3.00pm to 7.00pm. The centre will also be open on Saturday from 8.00am to Midday but will not open unless bookings have been made.
  • All court hire must be booked prior to arriving and will be strictly observed to ensure availability of courts and that a 15-minute buffer can be provided so the necessary cleaning can be conducted.
  • Bookings can be made by contacting Ross on 0407 637 689, at the pro shop during opening hours on 4639 1874, or by email to enquiries@toowoombatennis.com.au.
  • The Pro Shop will be open for payment of court hire which will be Eftpos only and will be restricted to one customer in the pro shop at any time.
  • The Pro Shop will be accepting racquets for re-stringing and they will be cleaned before and after they are strung.
  • Venue:
  • The committee will be working through the TQ “Club self-assessment checklist for re-opening” between now and Monday to ensure the centre is COVID-19 ready for opening. This will include:
  • Erecting COVID-19 and social distancing requirements and signage
  • A full clean of the areas that players will be allowed to access
  • Restricting areas were players cannot access - this includes upstairs, past the pro shop entrance, showers, shade huts near courts 7,8 and 9, etc.
  • Removal of seating from the courts

Distancing in Place  Pro Shop Ready  All seating removed

Although this seems a long list of requirements, it is only maintaining the COVID-19 world we are and have been currently living in. I would recommend you read the attached guidelines which provide further recommendations for your safety.

Please work with us to ensure the safety of yourself, the other players and the wider community. If there any further easing of restrictions that impact the current guidelines, we will update you as soon as possible.

Regards,

Allen Smythe
