Working Bee Sunday, 13th October

We’re reaching out to ask for your support in assisting with the upcoming St Monica’s Tennis Club Working Bee on Sunday, 13th October. This is a fantastic opportunity for members to give back to the club and help maintain the grounds in preparation for the exciting events coming up, including the school fete.

Any time and effort you can contribute will be greatly appreciated. It’s a wonderful way to get involved, meet other members of the club, and support the school that has supported us for many years.

Please mark the date in your calendars and come along if you can!

Start time 9.00am and we should have the work done within two to three hours.

Reach out to the club at stmonicastennisclub@gmail.com if any questions prior.   A note indicating you can assist would be greatly appreciated

St Monica's Parish Fete - Saturday 16th November

We are pleased to announce that St Monica’s Parish Tennis Club will be supporting the upcoming St Monica’s School Fete on Saturday, 16th November 2024, from 12 PM to 5 PM. As part of our collaboration, we’ll be providing access to our courts to help run various sporting clinics such as footy, basketball, netball, and soccer. With the Junior Yard being off-limits due to construction, our courts will offer vital space for these activities.

Additionally, Sim and the team from Alpha Tennis Academy will be present on the day to promote tennis coaching for all age groups at St Monica’s, offering a great opportunity for families to get involved in the sport. The club will also be using this occasion to promote membership and raise our profile within the school community.

Here are some key points from the organisers of the fete:

  • The fete will run from 12 PM to 5 PM, and the food and drinks area will remain open until around 7/8 PM.
  • We’ve agreed to let the fete committee use our courts to run their sporting clinics, which is a wonderful way to connect with the broader community.
  • St Monica’s Tennis Club is encouraged to participate in additional ways, such as offering a cash sponsorship, donating prizes for the raffle or silent auction, or even running a tennis clinic during the fete.

This is an excellent opportunity for us to engage with the school, showcase our club, and potentially gain new members. I encourage anyone who might be interested in assisting with these efforts to reach out, as your support and ideas will be invaluable!

Looking forward to a fun and successful event.

Junior Competition Update

16/9/2024

We are 9 rounds in to the season, with a few weeks off now for school holidays.

It has been a great season so far, with all 4 teams currently sitting in a top 4 position.

Opportunities for Enhancement and Involvement at St Monica’s Tennis Club

Leadership Development: I strongly advise our young and female members to consider applying for the Future Leaders and Learn 2 Lead programs. These initiatives provide a unique platform for personal development and leadership within both our club and the broader tennis community. Taking part could greatly enhance your skills and influence.

Strategic Planning Assistance: It is important for members who are motivated to shape the long-term success of our club to know about the strategic planning services offered by Tennis Victoria. This opportunity can significantly aid in defining the future trajectory of our club. I encourage interested members to explore the available grant options that can help fund such valuable initiatives.

These avenues are not just about personal growth; they are also crucial in strengthening the foundational and community ties of St Monica's Tennis Club. Engaging in these activities will provide immense benefits to both individual members and our club as a whole.

If you would like more information about these programs send an email to stmonicastennisclub@gmail.com

Court Lighting Update

On Monday 2nd September, the light pole between courts 1 and 2 collapsed and smashed the lighting equipment in high winds.  The clubs lighting supplier was very quick to respond with works to remove the pole and damaged lighting equipment.

The committee are completing some further investigation of remedial works required.   We do not believe this will be a quick process given the works required.  However for now we are satisfied that the lighting is adequate for night play.

We have consulted Tennis Victoria, and will be talking to various experts about the light poles in particular before any remedial works are completed.

Membership

Competitions are well underway, it is crucial to the ongoing success of that club that that all members are up-to-date with their subscriptions and match payments. This not only helps the club become financially stable but also ensures that you can enjoy all the benefits and activities without any interruptions.

If you have already paid your dues, please disregard this message. However, if you haven't done so yet, I kindly request that you take a moment to settle your account before any further competition or casual play.

Court Utilisation and Availability

St Monica's Tennis Club is one of the best presented clubs in the region with modern and upgraded facilities for play.

Recently, the committee received an automated lock solution at no cost from Tennis Victoria which is fully integrated with our Court Booking and Membership System.  https://play.tennis.com.au/stmonicastennisclub.

Tennis Victoria's solution  provides the club with an opportunity to consider casual court hire for the broader community, our courts made visible in the platform  play.tennis.com.au

At present courts can only be booked by full financial family, senior, junior and life members outside of competition and coaching time frames.

The lock and booking solution allows the club to make court hire available to the community on a restricted time basis for a hire fee.  The committee is considering providing access to one to two courts during low utilisation periods of Monday to Friday  9.00am to 3.00pm

Access to the club rooms would not be possible for casual non-member use and the players would be advised to use the public toilets in Queens Park.

The club is interested to hear feedback from members before implementing this solution.

The additional revenue generated from this court availability for casual play will contribute towards maintaining the clubs independent financial viability and help maintain the surfaces and lighting to the highest professional standards.

Please address your feedback to the President and committee stmonicastennisclub@gmail.com
