To the members, supporters and friends of St Christoper’s Tennis Club:
I would like to start by introducing the Committee which will serve our club for the rest of the 2021/22 year, based on electronic nominations and co-options by the Committee:
President: Jack Krohn
Vice-President: Jeff Webb
Secretary: Supriyo Sinha
Treasurer: Alan McHenry
General Committee: Sandy Chandranath, Hari Haritharan. Graham Pang, Jay Sempio, Veera Sriamareswaran.
I would especially like to thank Graham Pang for his work as President during the past two very challenging years. I am thrilled to have such great Committee members returning, in particular Jeff who is stepping up to the Vice Presidency to lead the implementation of our Strategic Plan. I also wish to welcome Supriyo onto the Committee and into the role of Secretary.
We look forward to working with and for you all to recover from the effects of the pandemic and rebuild the strength of St Christopher’s Tennis Club.
We thank all members who are double vaccinated in the interests of the best protection of themselves, their fellow members and guests of the club. In line with State Government requirements and Tennis Victoria advice, we will not apply an obligation for mandatory vaccination against Covid-19, but we strongly encourage any members who have not yet achieved double vaccination to get both jabs without delay. In particular, we encourage all members who may be playing competition tennis for St Christopher’s to make sure they are fully protected. Please respect all of the other requirements relating to the pandemic, such as checking in via the QR code every time you visit the tennis club.
Because of the shortness of time for organising and lack of certainty around what would be permissible, we won’t be holding an end of year dinner this year. However, on Sunday 5 December we will hold a free BBQ, following weekend social tennis. The players will contribute food and the club will also provide food and drinks for the event, to which all members and fiends of the club will be welcome. Based on past experience, the weekend social players really know how to turn on a spread, so this is not to be missed! We will also include a short General Meeting in the proceedings for the morning/ lunchtime, to endorse formally the election of the Committee, to explain the Strategic Plan for the club, that the previous Committee adopted with the enthusiastic expert assistance of our new Vice President, Jeff Webb, and which the new Committee is resolved to implement, and to make a couple of presentations. We would love to see as many of you as possible at the event. To help with catering, please RSVP to stctennisclub@gmail.com by Sunday 28 November.
After a disjointed Spring 2021 competition season, we are looking forward to a return to normal competition in Autumn 2022. We have teams playing night tennis on Monday and Tuesday nights, mid-week mens on Wednesday mornings and Metro Masters on Thursday afternoons. We have plenty of room to accommodate interested new players in existing teams, and scope to add additional teams if we have the numbers - please speak to any Committee member if you are interested in playing regular or occasional competition tennis and we’ll do our best to find a way to fit you in. Team entries will be due in soon, so please let us know of your interest.
We also have room for helpers with jobs associated with the Strategic Plan and with ongoing tasks such as maintenance. We will hold occasional working bees, especially after the crazy spring weather settles down, for which helpers will always be most welcome. If you are able to help with anything, or you have any ideas about how to make this great little club better, again, please speak to any of the Committee.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the courts. Take care and stay well.
Jack Krohn, President, St Christopher’s Tennis Club
On behalf of the Committee
