Ian Henderson Encouragement Scholarship (January 2025)

The South Camberwell Tennis Club will again be awarding the Ian Henderson Encouragement Scholarship in January 2025

This is a great opportunity for one keen young tennis player each year to improve their tennis skills.

The scholarship is for $600 which may be applied by the Club to one individual junior for one year, with the scholarship being available to fund lessons, equipment and other items e.g. shoes and clothing, as appropriate.

Other conditions are set out below;

  1. Application of the funds will be directed by the SCTC Committee, and coaching will be undertaken at the Club by the Club’s coach – Danny Oltvay of Vida Tennis.  The coaching program may consist of group, semi-private and/or private sessions;
  2. The Club will also provide the selected player’s Family with a Family membership for the Club for the applicable duration (ending end March of the following year).  If the Family or the selected player wishes to continue with the membership after that time, they will need to renew the membership (however, no joining fee will be payable);
  3. The Scholarship will be formally awarded by Ian Henderson at a small event at the Club in late January 2025 or early February 2025 and the selected player and his or her family (i.e. at least one guardian) are required to be there;
  4. The selected player is expected to participate in Club social tennis tournaments (normally in April and October) in either the advanced section or the novice section unless there is good reason not to;
  5. The recipient is required to reasonably consent to details of the awarding of the scholarship being communicated to members and featured on the SCTC website;
  6. Applicants are required to complete a short application on the Application Form that sets out the reasons that they would like to receive the scholarship and what they would like to achieve with their tennis.
  7. The form is available from the Club Secretary (roger.church@outlook.com) and needs to be submitted before 31 October 2024.

Note that this not a high performance tennis scholarship.  Rather the purpose is to provide an opportunity to a keen young (preferably aged 6 to 14) tennis player to develop their game that they would not otherwise get, and this will be the primary consideration in selecting a suitable recipient.

Recipients will be required to accept the decision of the Committee of the South Camberwell Tennis Club and understand that the award may not be awarded every year even if it is advertised as being on offer.
