Return to COVID Safe Tennis

You have probably heard the great news from the ACT Government that tennis is one of the sports that can resume on Saturday morning subject to some guidelines.

It is not a return to normal on the court and the ACT is still in a lockdown. It is a relaxing of the restrictions to allow some tennis to be played.

Last night, Tennis ACT briefed club Presidents about those restriction to allow a COVID safe return to the courts. See the Tennis ACT COVID-19 Update.

Some of the key points from the briefing as they relate to our club:

  • Only social tennis. No competition, no coaching or training.
  • To ensure social distancing, Tennis ACT strongly recommends that there be a 15 minute buffer between tennis sessions.
  • To implement this recommendation at Reid, bookings cannot now be made between the hour and quarter past the hour. Players with existing bookings starting on the hour should arrive 15 minutes after their scheduled start time. For example, arrive at 2.15 pm for a booking from 2 pm to 3 pm.On arrival at the courts, players must check-in using the CBR App.
  • Masks are to be worn at all times unless playing.
  • The club house will remain closed and is for emergency use only eg toilet breaks. No more than 4 in a group. Play is restricted to your group. Do not play with or against other people during your session.Social distancing is critical.  Enjoy your tennis and then leave the club.Members can play outside their area for social and non organised tennis. Confirmed by Tennis ACT.The gates to the courts will be kept open.It is up to all tennis players to contribute to the club continuing to be a COVID safe and friendly place to play.

While the COVID situation is fluid, the Committee will do their best to keep members and other contacts up to date.

Happy hitting. Let's hope we get back to normal soon.
