Media Release from John Barilaro MP Member for Monaro published on 17 December 2021.

LIGHTING UP QUEABEYAN FOR LOCAL SPORTING STARS

Queanbeyan Park Tennis Club and Queanbeyan Tigers AFL will soon be playing after dark thanks to more than $351,000 in funding which will help deliver much needed lighting improvements for the clubs.
Member for Monaro John Barilaro said the funding was providing a major boost for local clubs and the future sporting stars of the Monaro.
“We all know sport is the lifeblood of Monaro and we have some of the most talented sporting stars in NSW,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Which is why it is so important to invest in the infrastructure that supports our local players to train and play all year round.
“I am thrilled that Queanbeyan Junior Tigers and Queanbeyan Park Tennis Club have received funding under this program to support them in lighting up their facilities and ensuring locals can play all year round.”
Mr Barilaro said Queanbeyan Park Tennis Club received $76,887 to upgrade its current lighting to new energy efficient LED lighting, while Queanbeyan Junior Tigers received $274,822 to install LED lighting at Steve Mauger Oval.
“The lighting at the Campbell Street Tennis Courts has been in desperate need of an upgrade and this funding will help reduce costs for the tennis club whilst improving the conditions for competition and social games,” Mr Barilaro said.
“It is great to see the Queanbeyan Tigers junior team also receive funding to install lighting at Steve Mauger Oval which, until now could not be used to train in the winter evenings because of safety concerns for players and parents.
“This funding will ensure these local clubs can use their facilities safely throughout the year which is a huge win for Queanbeyan’s sporting stars.”
Funding for Queanbeyan Park Tennis Club and Queanbeyan Tigers AFL Club is thanks to NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund which has delivered more than $4 million across the Monaro.
