21/22 Senior Season Update

 We're at the Christmas break in the SPTA Season! Our Senior Team have started the year strong, yet to drop a match. Check out the results so far!

R1: Naracoorte v Robe Rebels - 16th October

At Naracoorte the rain cleared up leaving perfect weather for tennis. Naracoorte took the early lead securing 5 sets in the mixed doubles. P. Bobridge/R. McKay put Robe on the board early with a 6-3 win over D. Moos/K. Moyle-Read. In the singles, Naracoorte took a convincing lead, securing most sets with the help of 6-0 wins by J. Malone, L. Clyne and K. Baker. The top men’s singles was a highlight of the day seeing a tough battle fought between George White and Jed Regnier. In a hard hitting match, White came away with a 6-4 win. Naracoorte extended their lead further in the doubles. However, Robe had one late fight back with J. Agnew/J. Kokiousis winning the bottom men’s double in a tiebreak over S. Baker/A. Mann. At the end of the day it was a great effort from all for the first round of the season. Naracoorte 20-153 defeated Robe Rebels 4-80

R2: Naracoorte vs Luc. Wombats - 23rd October

Naracoorte continued their winning start to the season, opening the day strong with wins in four mixed doubles. G. White/P. Moyle-Read just had the edge over B Hocking/E Handbury, taking the top mixed double 7-5. In the singles, Naracoorte continued their fine form with 6-0 wins to G White, S. Biggins snd M. Moyle-Read. The Wombats R. Robinson secured one of their sets in a tiebreaker over A. Mann (7-6(7-5)). However the highlight of the day was the top ladies singles where Poppy just edged out Eliza 7-5. With the day squared away, spectators enjoyed some doubles action. In the last match of the day, S Malone/S Biggins triumphed over D Ogilvie/J Waugh 9-6. 
Naracoorte 19-144 defeated Luc. Wombats 5-88.

R3: Luc. Koalas vs Naracoorte - 30th October

The afternoon started with a tight contest that set the trend for the day. 7-5 and 6-2 wins to both sides kept things interesting. The T.Durick/L.Graetz pairing were too strong for G.White/P.Moyle-Read, winning 6-1. However, the D.Menzel/K. Moyle-Read team fought back for Naracoorte, defeating A.Maywald/A.Buckett 7-5 in a tough contest. In the singles, the contest continued. J. Malone continued her winning streak with another 6-0 win, this time over K. McGregor. In the tightest game of the day, C. Smart just got the better of S. Malone, 7-5. The highlight double of the day was between father-son duos C. and T. Smart and S. and W. Malone. The Smart’s triumphing 9-4.
Naracoorte 15-123 defeated Luc. Koalas 9-106.

R4: Naracoorte vs Cockatoos - 6th November

A wet start to the morning had the day in doubt, however, blue sky and sun appeared just in time. Matches started close with each team sealing three mixed doubles. A dominant display, 6-0, from G. White/P. Moyle-Read was one of many highlights of the day. In the singles, the matches continued to be close. Jamie Bettoncelli secured a tiebreak for Naracoorte, closely defeating Tim Legoe. George White put on a clinic for spectators, taking the win over Lachie Jones, 6-0. In the doubles, we saw a taste of all seasons. H.Walter/E. Boyington played through the rain to defeat K.Baker/S.White 9-7. The day ended with a tight match between P. & K. Moyle-Read and C.Weaver/L.McCarthy. The sister-duo sealing Naracoorte’s win 10-9(7-5). 
Naracoorte 14 sets defeated Lucindale Cockatoos 10 sets

R5: Robe Roosters vs Naracoorte - 13th November

Naracoorte travelled to take on an undermanned Robe Roosters.  At the end of the mixed, Naracoorte led 4-2, winning the number 1, 2, 3 and 6 sets. Robe’s L&B Hurst, secured one of their sets in a tight 7-5 win over L.Clyne/A.Mann. In the singles, Naracoorte furthered their lead. The Naracoorte ladies held their own to gain 5/6 sets. Albert Mann’s weekly practice has payed off with a 6-4 win over Lachie Hurst. Match of the day goes to Lottie Clyne and Bec Hurst. Lottie fought back from 5-1 down, to take the game to a tiebreaker. However, Bec just snuck home with the win, 7-6(13-11). The day finished with some good contest in the double from the top men. G.White/D.Moos we’re lucky to win, 10-8, over A.Clements/M.Roberton, in what was an entertaining match for spectators.
Naracoorte 18-151 defeated Robe Roosters 6-84.

R6: Frances/Luc. Eagles vs Naracoorte - 20th November

Forfeiting their home game, Naracoorte travelled to Lucindale to take on the Eagles. Naracoorte pairings G.White/P.Moyle-Read and S.Malone/M.Moyle-Read started the day on form with 6-0 wins in the mixed. The Eagles T.Longbottom/S.Ford were too strong for S.Baker/S.White winning 6-2. At the end of the mixed, Naracoorte held the lead 5-1. In the singles, Flo Burgwin put up a good fight, but was no match for Poppy Moyle-Read who stormed home to a 6-0 win. New found player, Mark Woods stunned the crowd with a 6-2 win over an in-form Daniel Moos. Sam Baker also found his form defeating Toby Longbottom 6-0. Single of the day goes to Jen Malone and Sarah Hinge battled it out on Showcourt 5. Malone succeeded 6-4. The Moyle-Read sisters kicked off the doubles, continuing their powerhouse pairing to win 9-3. However, doubles of the day goes to G.White/D.Moos in a tough 9-6 battle against C.Jones/M.Woods.
Naracoorte 20-141 defeated Frances/Luc. Eagles 4-70.

R7: Kingston Crays vs Naracoorte - 27th November

What a day to travel to the coast! The mixed doubles produced two tiebreaks, one for each team. D.Menzel/K.Moyle-Read secured one set for Naracoorte over M.Pinkerton/A.Menz, while T.Parker/N.Crane put the Crays on the board early defeating W.Malone/L.Clyne. In the singles, the Naracoorte ladies continued their winning streak, securing all 6 singles. The men’s singles saw a tough battle between Mitchell Pinkerton and Daniel Menzel which Mitchell secured in a tie-break. An untouchable George White also broke his curse defeating cousin Matt Menz, 6-4. However, match of the day was a hard hitting tussle between Bianca Cunneen and Poppy Moyle-Read on the show court. Bianca secured an early break to go up 3-1. However Poppy fought back bringing the game square again. At 6-6 all eyes were firmly on the front court. This time Poppy took an early lead, blitzing to 5-2. Bianca was able to hit her way back to 6-6. After the change of ends, it was Poppy who was able to break serve to win the match 7-6(8-6). With the day sealed away by Naracoorte, everyone enjoyed some doubles action. The father-son Malone duo won an entertaining match against A.Stenner/T.Parker. While a surprise 9-2 upset by S.Lehmann/N.Crane over M.Moyle-Read/L.Clyne secured one final set for the Crays. 
Naracoorte 19-157 defeated Kingston Crays 5-105.

R8: Naracoorte vs Kingston Dolphins - 4th December

In the only match played away from Lucindale, Kingston Dolphins travelled to face a strong Naracoorte side at home.  The mixed doubles kicked of with a tiebreak win for each team. Kingston’s A.Stenner/A.Mules gained them an early set over S.Malone/L.Clyne. However, D.Menzel/M.Moyle-Read levelled the score over S.Edwards/T.Mules. In the singles, Sid Malone and Ash Stenner took to the courts for the second week in a row with the pressure firmly on Malone. Ash took on the challenge winning an additional 3 games to last week, only to go down 7-5. Naracoorte’s bottom ladies, K.Baker and S.White secured their sets, but L.Clyne was challenged by rising star A.Mules who won another set for the Dolphins, 6-2. Daniel Menzel and Stephen Edwards played a thrilling singles, which Menzel won 7-5. Unfortunately, this also saw an injury to Edwards which resulted in a forfeit in the doubles. The doubles were underway early with wins to Naracoorte. The top ladies, P. & K. Moyle-Read were in top form, sealing their double, 9-2 over N.Gluyas/F.Watts. Match of the day goes to M.Moyle-Read/L.Clyne for Naracoorte who saved three match points to win their double 10-8 over mother-daughter pair, T. & A. Mules. 
Naracoorte 20-157 defeated Kingston Dolphins 4-93.

R9: Furner/Beachport vs Naracoorte - 12th December

The weather turned it on as Naracoorte travelled to Furner. The 12:30pm start was a blessing in disguise with many close sets and long games. The mixed doubles started with three tight sets. Beachport’s stop pair Harris/McGrath showed their experience on the court defeating G.White/P.Moyle-Read in a tiebreaker. Simultaneously, Naracoorte pair D.Moos/K.Moyle-Read scored a 7-5 win over T.Loveday/L.Duldig. At the end of the mixed, Naracoorte had the lead 4-2. In the singles, Naracoorte stood up and showed why they are the top team, securing 10 of 12 singles. Beachport’s Melissa McGrath showed her leadership with a 6-4 win over undefeated Poppy Moyle-Read to gain their third set. However, match of the day goes to George White and Jake Harris. Both players stepped onto the court ready to battle, and a battle it was. The hard-hitting affair was delighted spectators, with White coming out with a 6-4 win. The doubles kicked off with two comfortable wins to Naracoorte. Beachport’s top and bottom men’s doubles scores two more sets for their team, while the Moyle-Read sisters put another on the board for Naracoorte. At the end of the day, I’m sure all would agree that the score line doesn’t reflect the intensity of the day.
Naracoorte 18-150 defeated Beachport 6-100.
