Dot & Phil Green bestowed with Life Membership on Monday 10th November 2025 (following the AGM)
Dot & Phil moved to the Merimbula area from the Southern Riverina district in 2008.
Their first membership was recorded at Merimbula Tennis Club in the 2008-2009 membership year.
At the August 2009 AGM the current President, Vice President & Secretary vacated their positions and Darrel Wray was elected President and Phil took on the position of Secretary and Dot joined the general committee.
In 2010 Dot was elected to the position of Treasurer and so Phil & Dot continued as a
team for the next five years with Dot stepping down from the position on the 16 th August 2015. Phil carried on as Secretary for one more year.
Phil & Dot became very involved in all club activities during this period, Phil negotiating the five year lease with Bega Valley Shire in 2009-2010 and again in 2015-2016 which by this time had become quite technical and labor intensive. Meanwhile Dot was meticulous with her accounting and
collection of membership fees.
They became involved with the running of the Annual Seniors Tournament each October and although stepping down from major rolls you will see them at 7:30 each tournament day unlocking the gates and bagging the courts in preparation for an 8am start. Dot will take on her photographic role, loading the TV with yesterday’s photos for all to see. She then circulates around the courts and in the clubhouse taking more photos for the next day. Meanwhile you will see Phil quietly working in the kitchen and assisting where he can.
Phil & Dot were always involved when it came to working bees, in particular when courts 6 & 7 were being re-sanded which involved pressure cleaning the old sand out and sweeping in the new specially washed & kiln dried sand. Dot could often be seen assisting with the gardens while Phil could be seen re-nailing the paling fence along the boundary. Even last week Phil was seen sandpapering the bottom of the men’s toilet door so that it did not scratch the tile floor while opening.
Phil & Dot are regular attendees at the Monday social tennis group and can be seen after tennis having a coffee with other players down town. Likewise they are back on Thursday and meet with that group for lunch.
Dot ensures that there are biscuits in the cupboard and milk in the fridge for morning teas. They are also regular players in the Annual Club Championships with Dot taking out the Ladies Open Singles on several occasions. (2009, 2015, 2016, 2022, 2023 & 2024).
Over the years the club has lost a few of their members and Dot will be there to write a tribute or eulogy and place on the notice board and with Phil they will attend the funerals.
