Presidents Report - Season 24/25

What a year it has been for the club as we continue to grow and see first hand the progress of the club with the new redevelopment that was the culmination of years of hard work by the previous President and committee.

The 4 new synthetics courts were handed over to the club in May of 2024 and while we were limited with our ability to do to much we only had to wait a few months for the completion of the new clubhouse.

The year started with an open family night which exceeded expectations with the courts full of kids and families enjoying the new courts and facilities. Thanks to Nathan Gordon who kept the kids entertained with games and a clinic while the parents watched on.

Whilst we had been enjoying the new courts for a couple of months, we officially opened the new facilities in November with City of Greater Bendigo Mayor Andrea Metcalf, Councillor James McIirath, CEO Andrew Cooney and the general committee in attendance.

The club again entered two teams into the EDTA which again saw a summer of great tennis, positive feedback on the new synthetic courts (the only ones in the competition) and our first official game under lights, with a couple of small hiccups along the way.

While neither team walked away with any silverware this season both teams remained competitive with both teams interrupted during the year with player numbers fluctuating during the season due to numerous factors.

Social memberships continue to come in and the addition of Book a Court means we can now track steady income and usage of the courts from members of the public and members. During the year we were lucky enough to receive a donation from the Maiden Gully Progress Association in which we recently hosted a free school holiday tennis clinic run by Giant Tennis.

What does the next 12 months have in store for the Maiden Gully Tennis Club

  • Explore sponsorship opportunities for the club to assist with keeping the club in a financial position and assit with the upkeep of the facilities
  • Continue to encourage the greater Maiden Gully suburb to become involved with their local tennis club through our association with Giant Tennis.
  • Continue to keep the community informed through social media and build our following
  • Continue to provide a range of events for members and the public such as Fast 4,
  • Open Courts and social competition in the BTA and look at new initiatives such as Pickleball

I would like to thank the current committee for the past 12 months as my first year as President of the club I began my tennis playing days almost 30 years ago. A lot has changed in that time and I think our club is well placed to bring tennis back to the popular sport it once was.
