Junior Finals wrap

Three Maccabi Tennis Club junior competition teams progressed to the Grand Final. Of the three teams, two teams were triumphant. Junior Coordinator Joel Rabinov reflected on another strong season for the Maccabi Tennis Club junior competition teams and noted that all three teams playing in Grand Finals were somewhat weakened due to the absence of key players for the decider. Maccabi Tennis Club has junior competition teams that play on Saturday and Sunday mornings and the next season begins in mid-July.

There was nerves and excitement on Saturday for the Grand Final. The boys were not intimidated by the opposition being twice their stature. It looked like it was going to be tight after the doubles and there was some anxiety heading into the singles with twins Hardy James-Wurzel and Mason James-Wurzel away. However Adam (our 1) pulled off an amazing victory in singles. As always  Liam (our 2) was strong and steady and won his set comfortably. This gave motivation for Eitan (our 3) to come back from behind and win his match against a much older player and seal the victory. Louis (our 4) was gracious in his loss to his opponent.

This was a fitting end to the season where the boys consistently tried and fought hard never giving up. There were close matches during the season but when it mattered the boys lifted to win making them worthy champions.

It was a great season overall for Oscar Le, Aland Lee, Ben Nguyen, Pounny Zhou and Miles Ma Sing!  Oscar was unfortunately overseas for the Grand Final, but the remaining 4 boys proved their worth by winning convincingly 4 sets to 2, and 29 games to 25.  What a great send off for Aland Lee who played his last season as a junior! After 5 seasons together, it’s been amazing to witness how these 5 young men have gone from strength to strength as individuals and as a team.  Always supporting each other on and off the court, and countless get togethers after school, over weekends and during holidays – any chance to get in a hit in, helping each other improve, and above all, having fun as team mates – this has culminated in their second Grand Final win together!
