The Rachel Wertheim Shield was established by Jeff Feldman in 1983 to perpetuate the memory of Leon Haskin’s grandmother and it is presented each year to the Committee member “who has done the most for the club”. The MTC Committee decided to expand the remit of this award and honour the contributions of committed MTC members.
Ashley Raboy returned to play for MTC this year after playing for Coatesville Tennis Club together with sons Sebastian and Gabriel and has been a committed player and a reliable captain of his Tuesday night and Saturday afternoon competition teams. Ashley’s enthusiasm for tennis has endeared him to many.
Stephen Kleid rejoined MTC prior to the 2022 Maccabiah Games in Israel and has been a loyal and dependable player. Stephen was Club Champion in 1983 and is respected and liked by all at MTC.
Sam and Richelle Arber presented the Paul Arber Trophy to Eden Givoni (not in attendance) and Aaron Kramer.

Ten years after Paul’s tragic passing, many of us continue to be inspired by Paul and have strong memories of his contribution as a coach and player at MTC. In Eden’s first season as a competition player, she led her Section 4 junior girls team to the Premiership. Eden played nine singles matches as #1 ranked player and she won all nine matches. The scoreline in seven of these wins was 6-0 or 6-1 so it was a dominant season for Eden. Aaron Kramer, aged 15, has progressed rapidly through the MTC ranks. Aaron began playing Pennant in 2023 as a fill-in. He was enjoying strong results as the top ranked MTC junior player in Section 1. In 2024, Aaron played his first season of Pennant in the team captained by Joel Rabinov.
Aaron displayed strong form and has been promoted to playing in the top MTC Pennant team. The Paul Arber Trophy is awarded to junior players that display outstanding sportsmanship and in the view of the Committee, Eden and Aaron exemplify the legacy left by Paul Arber through showing respect for their teammates, opponents and the sport of tennis. We are proud that Eden and Aaron are Maccabi players and they have bright futures ahead.
