Finals Success

In a weekend of firsts for the Ferntree Gully Tennis Club, in dramatic fashion they were able to secure the top-grade final of the WDTA ASSOCIATION. Young gun players Kanvar Singh and Parsa Samareh held aloft the Ron Horne Challenge Cup Trophy after defeating a valiant MCC Glen Iris combination in the grand final

The final was played in great competitive spirit at the Doveton tennis club showcasing the exciting talent that is coming through the club and into Tennis Victoria and beyond.

The future is bright for both Kanvar and Parsa who a part of a group of rising talent in the regular squad sessions being held at Ferntree Gully. This sees local talent from across the state train hard under the tuition of Lachlan Gotz, Mark Brodam and the rest of the amazing team from Prestige Tennis Academy.

An excited Coach Lachlan Gotz said  “that it is important to celebrate success and enjoy it with those who you have achieved it with along the journey, and we are all looking forward to doing just that”

Incredibly for the club the success didn’t stop there with the WDTA A3 side comprising Head Coach Mark Brodam and another rising talent Hridaan Jamwal also winning their grand final against Burden Park. After securing their victory at Ferntree Gully both Mark and Hridaan were quick to head to Doveton to watch the end of the exciting clash and cheer Kanvar and Parsa onto victory.

The Club also had a B Special side playing away at Eley Park in Blackburn with a team of 4 having their first grand final experience for Ferntree Gully. They finished runners up and also took off to Doveton to join in the celebrations. Well done to Guntej, Jakub, Pathum and Pauline on a fantastic season.

The success on this Super Saturday began earlier in the morning with the club hosting Eastern Region Tennis junior finals at Ferntree Gully with over 60 supporters and players in attendance. Our tireless junior convenor Liz Hope calmly co-ordinated the players across the courts and all matches were played in great spirit. Ferntree Gully were proud to have success on court with the rubbers 31 team (Josh, Lucash and Sujay) winning the final and both the JDC section 1 (Kian, Alden, Jarvis, Benjamin) and JOD section 10 (Ashima, Bella, Balen, Will, Jessica) coming runners up. Congratulations also to Jacob, Stelios and Nikolas winning the Open Rubbers Section 32 playing away at Kew.

Club secretary Rebecca Redfern commented that “it was so nice to see the courts and clubhouse full, everyone enjoying themselves amongst family and friends. We pride ourselves on being a fun, active and inclusive club and this was on show today during and after the matches with everyone having a chat and laugh around the BBQ”

It truly was a Super Saturday for the Ferntree Gully Tennis club with 4 flags across juniors and seniors, a day to be remembered and talked about for years to come.
