We’re excited to be hosting a two-part Auslan workshop designed for coaches, officials, volunteers, players, committee members and anyone involved in community sport who wants to make their club more inclusive.
🗓 Sundays 22 & 29 March
⏰ 1.30–3.30pm
📍 Ferntree Gully Tennis Club
Auslan is the recognised language of the Deaf community in Australia. No prior Auslan skills are required — just a willingness to learn and be part of a more inclusive sporting community.
Led by Terence Childs, a native Auslan signer, this workshop combines practical skills with powerful lived experience and insight into the Deaf world.
You’ll learn:
✔ Fingerspelling the alphabet
✔ Common conversations and how to ask questions
✔ Reading body language and respectful communication
✔ Tennis-specific and general sports vocabulary
✔ Practical communication skills for training, game day and club events
Whether you’re on the court, field or in the clubhouse, this workshop will help you build confidence and create a more welcoming environment for Deaf and Hard of Hearing participants.
✔ Printed learning materials provided
✔ Certificate of Attendance issued
✔ Refreshments included (please advise dietary requirements when booking)
This workshop has been made possible thanks to the generous support of South East Water.
Let’s work together to make sport more inclusive for everyone 💜
