Safety

Please remember to log your details every time to come to the club using the QR Code provided (alternatively you can use the direct link: https://forms.gle/CDHU1jkxPg9WZgw69).  We can't become complacent about this.  Please remind any visiting teams that they also need to do this.

Competition

All competitions have started for the Autumn 21 season.   Great to see so many teams back in action.

Please remember for all adult competition we are not having any suppers or shared food.  And the clubhouse is only to be used for first aid, toilets, and filling drink bottles.

New Courts

Progress

Since the last update the paths have been laid, all the drainage is done, the fencing is up, and the first few coats have gone onto the hard courts (see photo above).

The final coats for the hard courts will be blue like the Melbourne Park courts.  Note that the system we've chosen is plexicushion and it has 11 layers.  Some of the layers are cushioned, which makes the surface much more forgiving on ankles, knees, etc, than a lot of the hard courts you're most likely to have played on.  It's quite a bit more expensive that the non-cushioned alternatives, but we'll get much more use out of these courts this way because more people will play on them.

The 'carpet' for the synthetic grass court has been delivered and will be laid shortly.

Entrance

As part of the new courts project the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) requires us to widen the main entrance path to meet the current standard (1.5m).  The new courts and surrounding paths are all accessible, so it follows that the entry to the venue also needs to be accessible by people with limited mobility, e.g. wheelchairs.  We don't have an exact date for this work but it is likely to be fairly soon.  We have to widen the path by approximately 30cm, so we'll have to shorten courts 2 and 3 by about 15cm each.  We'll end up with new black fencing at the end of those courts, and the path will match the new path that leads to the new courts.

Book A Court

As part of the new courts project we're installing the Book A Court system.  It's the Tennis Victoria system that allows court booking online and managed entry to the venue.

For the public:

Anyone (e.g. non members) will be able to find us and book and pay for a court through our website, using the website https://play.tennis.com.au/court-hire, or by googling something like "tennis court hire".  They'll get a single-use code to use to enter the venue.  If it's at night the lights come on automatically for the time of their booking.

For members:

For members it'll mean that you can book a specific court to play on, and you'll get a PIN code to use to open the main gate instead of using your key.  Competition, coaching and regular social tennis sessions won't require every person to enter with a PIN - the system will be configured to manage these events.

As mentioned in the last update we have a new membership system which will be linked to Book A Court so that when you book a court as a member it will know not to charge you public rates.  So please keep an eye out for an email asking you to activate your new account and action it as soon as you can, otherwise you won't be able to get in the front gate!

Your grey member key will still get you into the clubhouse - the only change will be to the front gate entry, where the PIN pad replaces your key.
