There is newspaper evidence that competitive tennis was a very popular sport in Bodalla in the late 1800s through to 1958 when Bodalla Tennis Club moved from courts behind the All Saints Church to its current site. Here they installed two rammed antbed courts on the north-western corner of the Bodalla Recreation Ground. A shared Clubhouse was erected by volunteer labour adjacent to the courts and members used this clubhouse until 2008 when Eurobodalla Shire Council replaced the building with the much grander structure you can see there today. In the interim Bodalla Tennis Club members through volunteer labour and fund raising upgraded the tennis facility by having court lighting installed in 1978 and the aging antbed courts resurfaced with synthetic turf in 1998.
At present the Club provides members and visitors with social tennis opportunities on Monday and Wednesday mornings and Friday evenings (contact the Secretary, Michael Jones, on 44738671 for details). At all other times the courts are available for casual hire (contact Matilda Fuel Bodalla, 122 Princes Highway, Bodalla on 44735175).
