Welcome to the 2nd Talking Heads column.

This month’s report comes from Simon Ballard our Junior Coordinator.

We are looking forward to the commencement of the Summer 2021/22 season commencing on Saturday 6 November. Unfortunately, due to recent lockdowns, the Winter season was abandoned. Of the 10 teams we had playing, 5 teams were placed to play in the finals.

Overall it was a good winter season with participation numbers 150% higher than two years ago.

This Summer season we have 19 Junior Teams and 93 registered junior players. We have teams ranging from Section 1 through to beginner Orange Ball teams.

With 25 newcomers to tennis this season, the club continues to grow its Junior Ranks at a phenomenal rate, when the majority of tennis clubs in the Geelong region are seeing a reduction in Junior Players. We have added another four teams from last summer to have the largest Junior numbers Barwon Heads Tennis Club has had.

We are now the 3rd biggest club in the Geelong Region. Thanks to the Club Committee for the support in growing the Junior Program as well as the enthusiasm and passion of Club Coach Jason Schoenmakers

Good luck to all teams for the upcoming season, hopefully we can complete the season without any lockdowns.
