Thanks to all the members who came along to the Club's working bees over the last three days. Our Asset Manager, Mary, provided both guidance to all of us and spent hours carting green waste and rubbish to the appropriate disposal sites. Between the rest of us we cleared the over grown garden beside court 1, trimmed the bushes on the outside of the fence, mowed and whipper snipped inside and outside court complex, swept concrete surfaces, weeded, and got rid of an accumulation of rubbish.
The big job was and continues to be the enclosing of the bottom of the fence to stop ball running under the wire. Thanks to a magnificent donation from a member's grandson, we were able to purchase 6m lengths of pine boards and as you can see from the photo many hands made light work to enable us to bolt boards on bothg sides of the fence so that not only will balls no longer run under the fence, but also buckling wire no longer presents a minor catching danger to players. Thanks to our life member, Neil Pinkerton, for both coming up with this solution and for overseeing the roll out of the barriers. By the time the working bee finished this afternoon, we had installed the boards on both ends of court 3 and the far end of court 2. It is hoped that the installation of the boards on the side of court 3 and the near ends of courts 1 & 2 will be completed next Sunday afternoon.
A special thanka also to our new members Naomi and Steve who not only brought their chain saw to cut the bushes down, but who also made several trips to the greenwaste dump at Mitchell to clear all the green waste collected over the last two days.
