The Clubhouse Update: May 2026

Hey AIC πŸ‘‹πŸ»

Welcome back to another edition of the AIC Club House Update!

As we move into the cooler months, it’s been great to reflect on what has already been a huge year for the Club.

From packed competitions and a fantastic 25-26 Awards Night, through to new social opportunities, growing participation, and exciting plans for the future — AIC continues to grow both on and off the court.

What continues to stand out most is the sense of community being built around the Club. Our recent member survey results showed that fitness & movement and community were the two biggest reasons people are part of AIC, and honestly… we think that’s pretty great foundation to have the Club built upon.

Whether you’re playing pennant, joining casual hits, helping behind the scenes, or simply dropping by for a chat — thank you for being part of what makes this Club what it is.

πŸ₯‡ Awards Night & Season Wrap Up

Our 2026 Awards Night was a fantastic evening celebrating the people, teams and moments that made this season so memorable.

Across Tennis North competitions, AIC club comps, twilight tennis and midweek ladies, there were some incredible performances throughout the year — but more importantly, there was plenty of laughter, sportsmanship and connection along the way.

A huge congratulations to all of our winners, runners up and award recipients, and thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the night such a success.

From junior players coming through the ranks, to long-time members continuing to lead by example, the depth of participation across the Club this season has been amazing to see.

❀️ Life Membership Recognition – Robyn Hanson

"This Life Membership is awarded to Robyn Hanson in recognition of her many years of dedicated service to AIC Tennis Club.

Through her passion, commitment, and genuine love for both the game and its people, Robyn has made a significant contribution to the growth of the Club, fostering inclusivity, encouraging participation, and supporting the development of members both on and off the court."

One of the most special moments of the Awards evening was the presentation of Life Membership to Robyn Hanson.

Robyn has been part of the fabric of AIC Tennis Club for many years, and her contribution extends far beyond tennis itself. Through her dedication, warmth and genuine care for people, she has helped shape the welcoming and inclusive culture the Club is known for today.

Whether supporting players, encouraging participation, helping behind the scenes, or simply making people feel welcome at the courts, Robyn’s impact has been felt across generations of members.

This recognition was incredibly well deserved, and we again congratulate Robyn on becoming an AIC Tennis Club Life Member.

A huge thank you also goes to everyone who helped organise draws, courts, scoring, finals nights and presentations throughout the season. Community sport only works because people continue to pitch in behind the scenes.

πŸ† AIC Club Championships Recap

The 2026 AIC Club Championships once again delivered a fantastic weekend of tennis, bringing together members across all ages and skill levels to compete, support one another, and celebrate the Club.

Across the weekend there were plenty of competitive rallies, close matches and great sportsmanship on display, with players battling it out across both singles and doubles formats.

What stood out most wasn’t just the quality of tennis, but the atmosphere around the Club — members and spectators coming together courtside, cheering players on and enjoying a fantastic weekend of Club tennis.

Congratulations to all players who competed throughout the Championships, along with this year’s winners and finalists. A huge thank you also goes to everyone who assisted with organising the draws, courts, scheduling and hospitality across the weekend.

Events like Club Champs continue to showcase the strong culture, connection and community spirit that makes AIC such a special Club to be part of.

πŸ“Š Club Survey Results

Recently we asked members for feedback about the Club, competitions, communication and future opportunities at AIC. Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the survey.

We had up to 34 people answering questions within the survey out of a total of 90 members. To achieve over 1/3 of members completing the survey is a great result, and highlights how engaged people are in the Club.

From members who completed the survey, a few things stood out clearly:

  • 70.6% of members who completed the survey said fitness and movement was a key reason for being part of AIC
  • 61.8% identified community as one of their main motivations
  • Casual hitting and social opportunities were among the most requested future activities
  • AIC competitions continue to be strongly supported

The feedback reinforced something we already suspected — people want AIC to continue being more than just a place to play tennis. So that's what we are working towards delivering for you, as outlined in the upcoming activities across the remainder of the year.

AIC continues to thrive because of the many small ways members contribute behind the scenes to support the Club and one another. Volunteering at AIC isn’t always about formal committee roles — often it’s the everyday things like organising fill-ins, sweeping out the Club House, helping set up events, or dropping letters to Life Members that help keep the Club running and strengthen the sense of community around it

We encourage all members, regardless of formal role or position within the Club, to continue contributing in the ways they can — with the many small acts behind the scenes continuing to play an important role in making AIC such a welcoming and connected community.

🀝 Kingston Ladies Weekend

We’re excited to confirm the Kingston Ladies will again head North on 17–18 October 2026 for another fantastic weekend of tennis, connection and community.

Save the date, more details to come.

πŸ›  Court Resurfacing Grant Update

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes on a grant to resurface and update the tennis courts. In April we submitted a grant application with the Tas Government through their Active Tas grant opportunity.

Over the past 12 years, these courts have been so well loved, and to keep up with the demand and continue to provide a safe and competitive playing environment, we need to do the upgrades.

πŸ“ˆ Fun Fact: Recent court booking data shows court usage more than doubling from 328 bookings by 34 users in 2024 to 703 bookings by 71 users in 2025. How cool is that!

Resurfacing dates: Whilst we won't know the outcome of the grant untll around June / July 2026, we are working towards completing the upgrades in February 2027. There will be limited interruptions for players, and we will be using the same contractor who resurfaced the courts last time in 2014. They're a well oiled machine.

Regardless of the grant's success, stay tuned for more information on the upgrades next year.

Questions: Feel free to reach out to Louise (President, AIC) 0400 241 996.

In the meantime, cross you're fingers and toes that the Tassie government sees value in the project the same way the Club.
