2021 Perth Lawn Tennis Championship Wrap up

Once again, Loton Park continues to strive and support the wider LGTBIQ+ community through bringing together players under the one shared passion of their love of tennis. The global circumstances this year created some challenges but nonetheless this didn't deter our player's enthusiasm and competitiveness, whilst still having a great time on and off the courts.

A total of 59 players joined the tournament this year competing across all grades. The weather gods were kind to the players providing some relief from the previous days of high 30's to a much more refreshing if not slightly humid, temperatures in the mid to low 30's. It was great to see some players making the commitment from Victoria to join us and unfortunately due to border closures, 10 players from NSW had to cancel their travel plans at the last moment. A special thank you to Jarrod Green, Nathanial Harper and of course David Tan for travelling to Perth and then due to circumstances out of everyone's control having to withdraw from the tournament after day 1 and go into isolation. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your dedication to tennis and support of the PLTC. Of course, it would be remiss of us not to also welcome back to Perth and the tournament our former members and presidents, Tony and Mikey. It was so good to see you both back on court at Loton Park and great to hear you will be here for the foreseeable future. Welcome back guys.

The success of our tournament is often supported by some amazing sponsors. Firstly, to Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, a massive thanks for your kind sponsorship. The additional donation of wrist bands and sunblock added to the fun of our players bags. To our local TennisWest partners, the support you have shown towards the PLTC and Loton Park has been tremendous in showcasing the talent at Loton Park and helping to promote our great club not only within Western Australia, but on a national basis. To Lisa at Restored Movement Massage, your amazing last minute contribution of discounted massages at Robertson Park was truly appreciated by many players and we look forward to working together with you at Loton and in the future. Once again Simon Robinson from Perth Light Photography captured some amazing action shots along with our resident photographer Jose Narvaez.

Throughout the tournament, an emphasis on fun was displayed along with some great sportsmanship. To our eventual winners a big congratulation and those not so fortunate to walk away with a trophy, we hope you enjoyed your time on court and see you again in 2022.

Of course the success of any tournament occurs due to the efforts of a few who do an incredible amount of work behind the scenes. If it wasn't for the commitment and dedication of the LPTC Committee members this tournament would not be the success it continues to be and have the reputation as the best GLTA tournament in Australia. Thanks to each and every one of you for your commitment to ensuring the experience of this event is a positive and fun filled time for everyone involved.

We look forward to welcoming you all back in 2022 for our biggest and best tournament yet.

In 2017, Loton Park Tennis Club initiated the Perth Lawn Tennis Championship (PLTC) as a tournament within the international Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA).

The PLTC, which is conducted in early January, has proved incredibly successful and popular with local, inter-state and international GLTA members. Our 2020 tournament attracted 114 entrants from 22 different countries.

We were voted best small tournament on the GLTA tour of 93 tournaments in our inaugural year of 2017.
