Men’s Autumn Comp – Rd 10

We head into the final round with many positions up for grabs including the podium topper and the wooden spooner. This week was one of the closest weeks as players are jostling for positions for the final matches. No real winners or losers as each team managed a win or draw meaning the highest score was 18 and the lowest only being 13.

Scott Dixon got a season PB of 18 with Andrew Noad who edges another game further ahead than 2nd place Danny Dossetor. Danny and Kurtis Brown had a mixed night of results and managed a solid 17. Blake Raworth was once again turning up the dial as his serve continues to create havoc for his opponents and with Nathan’s forehand on song the pair managed 14 games for the night. Bernard Gray partnered with super sub Tommy Arias who we now treat as a regular, grabbed 13 games with some exceptional shot making. Brendan Augustus was called in for Rob Irvine and although started the night slowly with Lachlan Date came home strong and managed 18 games with some solid running from the pair for both drop shots and overheads.

This now brings us to the final round and possible scenarios are interesting. So the battle for the top is Noady and Doss. Noady has the bye which means he is guaranteed 16 games and Doss is teaming up with Date and will need a score of 20 to draw and 21 to win. The problem being Noady is planning on doing a rain dance as he travels up to Forster to watch his daughter represent the South-West region in tennis meaning all players receive 16 games if washed out and he would be declared the winner.

Danny on the other hand has other obstacles, one being his arm not being 100% for some time and his partner may be missing in action due to the birth of his second child which was actually due last week. We can only imagine the pressure on the sub if it plays out that way.

In other news the comp will be expanding next season with two full divisions locked and loaded which is great news for the club and players alike. All players have been invited to the pre-game BBQ and refreshments before the final rubbers are played and new players can grace the court and attempt to get the rusty shots out of the way before the new season which kicks off on the 25th of July.

As you know we welcome additional players to the reserve list and the waiting list for next season. Please get in touch with the Griffith Tennis Club with your name and mobile number for more information: info@griffithtennisclub.com.au.
