Men's Autumn Social Comp - Week 7

Only four weeks to go and the pecking order has been established but who will finish strongly and who has draw to pull off a brilliant run home?

Many of our players fought hard during the MIA Open on the weekend and it showed with four reserves being called in to hopefully pinch 16 games and keep their spot on the ladder. Plenty of talk Thursday night with the improved facilities with new nets, new lines, and a consistent bounce – the clay courts are in top notch condition.

Kurtis Brown was getting the job done but fell apart in the last set to finish under par.  Andrew Woodifield is working through an injury and Nathan Crowley was under the weather, their replacements did well and gave them 16 games a piece which is the maximum when absent.

Rob ‘the lob’ Irvine continued his strategy of long patient points but only managed 1 win from 4 starts to finish with 10, although his partner Antonio DeMarco did some impressive shot making throughout the night and we can only hope he becomes a regular next season.

Scott Dixon who has had a horror run with the draw managed a personal top score with his partner Blake Raworth. Interestingly Scott has a new strategy in which he continues to win the last set 8 love to post a respectable score for the night, so do what you can to not play him last otherwise it could land you in hot water in the final rounds.

Andrew Noad and Locky Date stepped onto the court and quickly enjoyed the lefty serve and volley finish to earn many short points which was appreciated after a mammoth weekend in which the pair played in a combined 9 events. The pair managed to win the night with 26 games and now have their eyes set on climbing the ladder next week.

The top 3 spots are held by Danny Dossestor, Andrew Noad and Greg Lynch with 149, 148 and 137 games respectively. Surely, Andrew Noad can take top spot next week when he partners with Blake Raworth as Danny nervously enjoys his bye week?

We welcome additional players to the reserve list and the waiting list for next season in which we hope to have two divisions running with a promotion and relegation system.
