Men’s Winter Comp – Rd 5

Round 5 marks the half way point of the comp and that was made evident with a number of players hovering around the updated ladder that is posted inside the clubhouse each week.

The expansion of division two has brought on more competition and a better social scene with a few extra yarns told each week. Div 2 players saw a slowish start as some players were busy dusting off old racquets and feeling a little rusty where as Div 1 has seen some new racquets, shoes and strings as players look to find an edge where no games come easy anymore.

In Div 2, Kurtis and Juan, who filled in for Ale, grabbed a huge 26 games after losing their first set. Kurtis served well which is a reminder that if you win your serve all night you will mostly likely score well. Simon played with Steve as Rolf is visiting South Africa and enjoying their rugby spoils and he will be pleased to know they scored 17, 1 above par.

Simmo and Matt the net monster had an up and down night with a nice win and a nice loss. Andrew and Brayden were unable to convert game points and it showed on the scoreboard, they will be hoping for a lift next week. Rob ‘the lob’ and our youngest player Connor won 3 out of 4 sets for a more than healthy score of 21.

In Div 1, Head Coach needed some assistance with court preparation in the early evening and Noady answered the call. Watering the courts and sweeping the lines to create the perfect conditions for his game. It was telling as Noady scored well and moved up 3 positions to the top of the ladder. Some argued the courts were a little damp, I know who will be getting a call next time we need an extra hand 😊

Tommy the super sub had an off night with his serving as he partnered Megan and was unable to post a win for the night, don’t be concerned he will be back next week with his old tricks I’m sure. Crowley stepped up from last week and grabbed a 21 with Noady which saw them both climb the ladder.

Greg and Big Brother Dossetor earned the Mr Consistent badge with fours sets of 6-2 in their favour. Old time rivals Bernard and Blake came home strong with solid win to finish the night with 12. Sushant who seems to come with a different racquet each week partnered up with the Alexi Popyrin look alike Antonio Demarco for a solid 16 comprising of two wins and two losses.

As you know we welcome additional players to the reserve list and the waiting list for next season. Please get in touch with the Griffith Tennis Club with your name and mobile number for more information: info@griffithtennisclub.com.au.
