🎾 Tuesday Night Social Comp

The Tuesday night social comp is absolutely flying under the leadership of our new guru, Mitch Smith. Mitch has been entertaining the WhatsApp group each week, and below is a snippet of some of his finest work from last week.

👑 The Official Ladder: A New King Is Crowned

As Stu’s team climbs into top spot, the whispers grow louder: “Who is Col?”
If the original skipper doesn’t make it back from NZ soon, he might find himself relegated to the Blues Brothers courts, where the emergencies are eagerly waiting for leadership to get the social hits rolling.

Col was once Mitch’s right‑hand man… but perhaps no longer.

🎬 Team Names: Movie Edition

This season’s movie‑themed team names are absolute gold:

  • Silence of the Slams
  • Jason Vaughan (named after the real Vaughan)
  • Lock, Stock and Smoking Players
  • Lord of the Strings

They may be hell‑bent on cutting each other’s throats on court, but they’re having plenty of fun doing it — a perfect mix of competition and camaraderie.

If you’d like a hit on the blue courts as an emergency on Tuesday nights, let us know. You might just find yourself stepping up to join these would‑be’s if they could‑be.

🎾 Section 16 Boys

After winning the premiership last season in Section 21, our Section 16 boys have faced a tougher first half of the Autumn season. Despite strong opposition, they’ve shown fantastic sportsmanship and continue improving every week.

We welcomed two new team members this season, both of whom have done brilliantly learning the ins and outs of match play. The whole team has been incredibly supportive and welcoming.

A highlight has been having coaches Hayden and Nick come along to support the boys — especially on those early 8am away matches! Home matches have also been a treat thanks to the delicious homemade morning teas. The boys love hanging around afterwards to polish off leftovers, have an extra hit, and squeeze in a few games of table tennis.

🎾 Coaches Report

Coaching has been going really well this year. Nick and Hayden have completed their coaching qualifications, Robert’s performance players are doing well in tournaments, and cardio and adult tennis sessions are buzzing with new players.

If you need a tune‑up with your serve or groundstrokes, we’re here to help with whatever you need.

💡 Tip of the Month

If you start missing, hit higher with more spin.
Avoid going soft or trying to “guide” the ball — that usually leads to tightening up. Let the spin give you margin and confidence.

🎾 Midweek Women’s Competition Update

Midweek Women’s is the longest‑running competition in the Bayside Regional Tennis Association, and it kicked off for the new season last month.

We’re excited to have three teams representing the club in the daytime competition — two on Tuesday and one on Wednesday.

Outside of weekly matches, there’s often extra court time available for practice, especially when players are away, there’s a bye, or during school holidays.

If you’d like to get involved, reach out to our Midweek rep, Vivienne, and come join us for a hit

🎨 Our New Mural Is Coming to Life!

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to vote in our mural concept survey. We’re excited to share that the clear favourite was Trent Downie’s vibrant design featuring three dynamic tennis players — a perfect splash of colour and energy for our courts.

A very special thanks to Merinda for all her hard work organising everything behind the scenes — this wouldn’t have come together without you.

We also want to give a big shout-out to Jack Freeman for his creative ideas and contributions.

Next time you’re at the courts, take a moment to admire our new wall — it’s a community creation, and we love it already! 🎾💛

Clubhouse Upgrade Plans

The club has prepared plans for an upgrade of the clubhouse wet areas and is currently awaiting a quote for the works. As the project cost will exceed our available funds, we’ll be seeking support from Council and local representatives to help make it happen.

Save the Date – Annual Social Night

Our annual social night is locked in for Saturday 8 August at the Regents Park Pavilion. Pop it in your diary now. More details will be posted on the website soon.

Working Bee Wrap‑Up

A big thank you to everyone who joined our recent working bee. Special recognition goes to Vivienne and Merinda, who put their sewing skills to work repairing the nets on Courts 3 and 4. And congratulations to Liana, who took out top honours in the weeding department.
